Steem is liquid and can be purchased in an exchange and converted to STEEM dollars or steem power. Steem Power is essentially where users can use the power of steem for content upvote and get curating rewards. When a user puts voice content of his/her steem power, they become scarce, then regenerate slowly. Steem power holders receive interest from their holdings. More Steem power an elector has the most revenue that he/she will generate(in the form of SP) and for the content creator(in SBD). Steem is a proof of the working currency with a blocktime expected 3 seconds. Mining steem PoW is done in turns of 63 seconds by 21 miners.
The prices fluctuate based on local demand and supply.
